Ivana Gloria, IED alumna, wins the BEST DIRECTOR award at the London Director Awards with her debut "Chlorophyll"
Ivana Gloria, a former student of the Three-Year Video Design Course, has received significant recognition with her directorial debut, winning the BEST DIRECTOR and BEST OF THE BEST awards at the London Director Awards for the film "Chlorophyll". This annual event celebrates the talent and creativity of emerging and established directors from around the world.
"Chlorophyll" is a work that stands out for its originality and sensitivity. The story revolves around Maia, a young girl with green hair, who embarks on a profound inner journey. The discovery of sprouts on her head marks the beginning of a journey toward self-awareness, leading her to confront her sexuality and accept her body as "different" from the norm. When she meets Teo, an orange grower who lives immersed in nature, Maia begins a path of personal growth that not only helps her understand herself better but also establishes a special connection with the nature around her. The film explores her transformation, where the boundary between the human and the plant world becomes increasingly blurred, depicting a deep, emotional, and physical evolution.
Ivana Gloria's direction goes beyond telling a simple story of metamorphosis; it sensitively and originally addresses complex themes such as identity, self-acceptance, and the connection with the natural world. "Chlorophyll" stands out for its ability to blend genres, from drama to fantasy, and for its delicate yet powerful storytelling that avoids sentimentality, focusing instead on an intimate and universal story.
