IED is back in the spotlight at Milano Digital Week, a widespread event dedicated to digital innovation for citizens and businesses, with a series of events at its premises in via Sciesa 4, promoted by the School of Visual Arts and running along the thread of man's increasingly closer relationship with Artificial Intelligence, a relationship in which real and virtual sometimes become blurred.
HERE IS THE PROGRAMME
Thursday, 10 October
The two-day event begins at 6 pm in the Androne space with the inauguration of the Among Realities exhibition and the contextual installation performance (in room S4) Modelli Sistematici (Systematic Models) curated by Francesco Guida, a recent IED graduate in Sound Design.
Among Realities invites us to explore the many facets of reality and its possibilities through works that intertwine and overlap. At a time when the lines between real and virtual are becoming increasingly blurred, the projects on display offer new tools and perspectives to view and narrate the world in new ways. Entirely created by the students from the IED Milano Visual Arts courses, the works deal with experiences of conflict, loss, identity and perception, using both traditional and innovative media, such as photography, video, CGI and artificial intelligence. Through the use of these technologies, students invite us to reflect on the different nuances of reality and how our experiences are represented today.
Works include the 3D short film Echo (CG Animation thesis project) and two photographic projects.
Modelli Sistematici (Systematic Models) is an immersive experience that brings together audio, video and lighting to explore the principle of repetition, which is fundamental to human beings. Focusing on human relationships, the project highlights the emotions that characterise them, creating a soundscape that reflects the idea of repetition. Through hypnotic and repetitive musical sequences, spectators are led on a journey towards transcendence. Repetition automates actions and creates a positive feedback loop. This results in an acoustic tale about a failed love affair, structured in a circular fashion to highlight how individualism can destabilise the collective. Register here.
Friday, 11 October
From 10 am to 1 pm, IED hosts a panel on AI, Accessibility and Services during which goodbase, an innovative studio working in the field of design - from strategy to the implementation of services and campaigns - presents its research "Intelligenza Artificiale applicata all'Accessibilità" (Artificial Intelligence for Accessibility, in the main image an artwork from the report). Register here.
Speakers:
Ludovica Billi, The Deaf Soul, IED alumna
Chiara Alberti, Design Strategist
Luca Gonnelli, Co-founder algo e illo
The study investigates how AI is perceived and used to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. Despite the use of tools such as automatic subtitles and voice recognition, technical and economic obstacles remain. The panel stressed the importance of inclusive solutions designed together with people with disabilities, focusing on issues such as ethics, privacy and accessibility. On this occasion, IED students will also present projects and surveys on this topic, in particular on IoT Design.
From 2 to 5 pm, in rooms S4 and S3, Nick Landucci (multidisciplinary artist and IED lecturer) leads the AI Twin challenge workshop exploring the symbiosis between human creativity and artificial intelligence. After an introduction on how to create an “AI Twin” as an extension of one's own creative vision, participants - in teams or individually - will be able to put themselves on the line to define their aesthetic vision. The final works will be presented and viewed together in the form of a real challenge. Register here.
All events are free of charge.
