His project ‘This is us’ forms part of the Visual Stories exhibition inaugurated in Lisbon, the host city of the first Open House Europe Annual Summit
The first Annual Summit of Open House Europe, an international cooperation project co-financed by the European Union, was held in Lisbon on 15 and 16 December, with a programme open to the public based on the theme “Building futures together”, focusing on sustainable practices in the fields of architecture and urban planning.
Among the various activities forming part of the programme was the inauguration of the Visual Stories exhibition, consisting in showcasing different views of the city by candidates from the 12 European cities that responded to an Open Call promoted within the framework of the Open House Festival.
In the city of Bilbao, the winner was Asier Angulo, a third-year Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design student, with his proposal ‘This is us’. This graphic work highlights the idea that the future lies in people: in their ingenuity, creativity and the way they relate to each other, beyond technological advances, since it is the human mind that drives progress and innovation. People have the capacity to adapt, to learn and to evolve, making us the most valuable resource when it comes to building a more sustainable and prosperous future. Our ideas, values and aspirations pave the way towards a better world, and give meaning to the material creations and technologies that we construct.
Thanks to this first award, Asier had the chance to travel to the Portuguese capital, where he was able to share the experience with the other participants and attend the opening of the exhibition at the Sinel de Cordes Palace, an 18th-century heritage building converted into one of Lisbon’s most renowned cultural centres. His work has also been included in an editorial piece that brings together all the selected projects from the 12 cities that make up the Open House Europe network.
Congratulations, Asier!
