Isasti and Asga presented their respective final degree projects as speakers at Harroby, the new talent section of the BASQUERVILLE festival
BASQUERVILLE, the graphic design and technology festival that held its second edition in Vitoria Gasteiz from 16 to 18 October, introduced the new generation of Basque design. Among them were two alumni of IED Barcelona and IED Kunsthal-Bilbao, Xavier Isasti and Julen Asga, who were speakers at Harroby, the new talent section of the festival, in collaboration with EIDE Gazteak.
In his speech, Graphic Design graduate from IED Barcelona's class of 2022, Isasti — who designed the festival’s graphics with the team from his studio Sin Título 1 — highlighted the importance of research in branding projects and the need for collaboration among designers to produce better results in assignments. In addition, the young creative demonstrated various case studies of comprehensive projects carried out during his career as a student at IED. Among them was 'Pont al Palau', his final Degree project, which was awarded with a Silver Laus.
Julen Asga, alumnus of the Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design at IED Kunsthal Bilbao, had the opportunity to present 'YET', a multi-format project that proposes silence as an antidote to the saturation of images and overstimulation in contemporary society, the negative influence of which has increased disorders such as anxiety, hyperactivity and depression. Through various formats, from performance to embroidery, and approaches that value the process and the unfinished state, ‘YET’ seeks to connect with slower rhythms, highlighting the importance of the background over the figure and offering silence as a form of observation and reflection in design.
In addition to Isasti and Asga, the event brought together top designers such as Xabier Zirikiain, founder of Loreak Mendian, and Talia Cotton, who works with creative code and explores new scenarios in the field of graphic design.
An opportunity to learn from the best professionals in the sector on topics such as design, programming, interaction, motion graphics, virtual reality, and new forms of craftsmanship and digital manufacturing. An experience that both Isasti and Asga have been able to experience first-hand, this time as speakers.
