Two dresses designed by IED Fashion Design students will soon travel to the United States to be incorporated into the With Love Halston Foundation archive.
They are the winning look of the With Love Halston Fashion Scholarship Challenge, designed by Virginia Ceruti, a BA (Hons) Fashion Design student at IED Barcelona, and the creation of one of the nine finalists, Gaizka Albizu, a student from the first class of the Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design at IED Kunsthal Bilbao.
Ceruti’s dress is a design inspired by Greek mythology. The proposal combines glamour, fluid simplicity and timelessness, with trousers and an asymmetrical tunic with elegant draping in homage to Halston, made from 100% recycled fabric.
Albizu reinterprets the essence of Halston in his piece through the concepts of contraction and liberation. He articulates an internal language through experimentation with elastic fabric and flexible metal straps, generating a silhouette of apparent simplicity that flows into long draped stoles.
The With Love Halston Fashion Scholarship award ceremony took place on 15 October at a special event held within the framework of 080 Barcelona Fashion, where the designs of the nine candidates from five IED locations (Barcelona, Bilbao, Cagliari, Milan and the Accademia di Belle Arte Aldo Galli in Como) were showcased before the Foundation’s jury, professionals from the fashion industry, and the media.
Months ago, this institution, which works to promote new generations of creative talent in the world of fashion, following in the footsteps of Halston, launched a challenge for final-year fashion design students from the 11 IED locations: to present an original look designed in line with the North American designer’s aesthetic and following the criteria of sustainability and marketability.
Nine creations, mentored by members of the foundation and with the support of the school in question, made it to the final. All were widely recognised for the high quality of their design, but now these two dresses will be part of With Love Halston, contributing to the brand’s mission of spreading his legacy among up-and-coming design students around the world.
This achievement marks an important milestone in the emerging career of these two young designers with promising futures. Congratulations to both of them!
