A selection of collections walked the runway, showcasing the feeling of nostalgia for a future not yet lived

ModaLisboa Capital is one of the most influential fashion events on the Iberian Peninsula, a stage for innovation and creativity, where emerging talent gains visibility. For the third year running, we participated in the event consolidating and promoting the new generation of designers.

This year, we reinforced our commitment to training emerging talent and to dialogue on the future of the sector, actively participating in debates, fashion shows and initiatives that highlight fashion as an engine of social and cultural transformation.

Cultural Capital: Can Design Be a Catalyst for Change?

On Thursday, 6 March, Umberto Sannino, Director of IED Milano's fashion school, took part in the panel ‘Can Design Be a Catalyst for Change?’ alongside Antonio Lettieri (Cabana Mad) and Mira Wanderlust (33 Magazine) at the Fast Talks at MUDE.

This conversation explored the impact of design in the contemporary world and how creativity can drive significant and sustainable change for the new generation of professionals and consumers.

Sangue Novo

On Friday 7 March, Danilo Venturi, Director of IED Milano, was on the jury of the new talent contest Sangue Novo with other professionals of the sector such as Miguel Flor (President), Joana Jorge (Project Manager, ModaLisboa), Constança Entrudo (Textile designer), Rune Park (Founder and CEO, loja Sheet-1) and Ana Tavares (CEO, RDD Textiles).

They awarded Duarte Jorge with a scholarship for a Master course in Fashion Brand Management at IED Firenze. His vision of an apocalyptic future presented in his collection “2112. Onyx District” brought him to design distorted silhouettes and mutant textures symbolizing the struggle between oppression and freedom.

This partnership reinforces our commitment to training innovative young designers. Fashion is a space for experimentation and change and our students have shown that they are prepared to redefine the paradigms of the sector. We're excited to continue expanding our collaborations and supporting this country's emerging talents”, explained Venturi.

Inês Barreto, the first IED winner of the Sangue Novo competition, came back to the Modalisboa runway after her studies at IED Milano that she received as a prize. Inspired by Fernando Pessoa's Book of Desassossego, Inês' collection was an evolution of her previous collection that was presented in 2023, in which she researched new sustainable materials for a more conscious fashion industry.

Graduate Fashion Show: Nostalgia for the future

Our big moment at ModaLisboa took place on Saturday, 8 March, with the ‘Nostalgia for the Future’ fashion show. An IED Graduate Fashion Show presenting creativity by recent graduates from the IED campuses in Italy and Spain.

The soundtrack, Eclipse, by Lorenzo Valleriani, a Sound Design student at IED Roma, started at 4 p.m. at Pátio da Galé, marking the beginning of the show.

Designers Adele Domini (IED Torino), Alexia Sedda (IED Cagliari), Gaizka Albizu (IED Kunsthal Bilbao), Leonardo Fizialetti (IED Roma), Letizia Lucchini (IED Milano) and Rat Borrell (IED Barcelona) presented daring proposals that explored the intersection between memory and imagination, tradition and the avant-garde, heritage and future.

A selection of collections walked the runway, showcasing the feeling of nostalgia for a future not yet lived, creating a longing for experiences and moments that exist only in the imagination.
