The 18 looks are inspired by various traditional Basque costumes
Aitor Goikoetxea continues to showcase Spanish fashion talent to the world. The IED Barcelona alumnus presented his “Adarrak” collection on the final day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico (9 to 13 October), a genderless proposal full of colours and textures with which he won the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent Award last February. The prize that allowed him to travel to Mexico City to present these 18 looks inspired by various traditional Basque costumes.
“Adarrak” originates from an idea by this fashion designer, who was born in 1999: the border between beast and man, a line where the vulnerability of tradition, Basque rituals, intimacy, fears, the past and the present all converge.
The pieces, full of personality, savoir faire and technique, are committed to sustainability, having been created primarily with discontinued vintage fabrics from the 1960s and 1970s. Goikoetxea has also collaborated with Omar Miranda to produce various handmade accessories made of resin and porcelain, as well as also with Mal de Ojo to create sunglasses designed by himself.
