The exhibition at Circolo del Design features Photography students offering a visual reinterpretation of the iconic locations from the novel La donna della domenica.

IED Torino takes part in the fourth episode of Archivi d’Affetto, a project by Circolo del Design that, until May 10, presents the exhibition La donna della domenica: una signora città. This exhibition, curated by Domenico Scarpa in collaboration with project curators Maurizio Cilli and Stefano Mirti, provides a unique perspective on the city of Turin through the lens of the famous novel by Carlo Fruttero and Franco Lucentini.

In the year marking the 50th anniversary of Luigi Comencini’s film adaptation and in anticipation of the 2026 centennial celebration of Carlo Fruttero’s birth, the exhibition has been developed in collaboration with the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation. The foundation has lent original notebooks belonging to the authors, revealing a work method based on observation, interpretation, and reinvention of a bourgeois world in full transformation.

Historical documents further enrich the narrative, contextualizing 1970s Turin, a city caught between deep-rooted traditions and emerging social tensions. A special focus on the novel’s characters highlights its human typologies, shaping an urban map filled with stereotypes and social nuances. Lastly, an urban atlas, featuring visual materials and newspaper articles, guides visitors through eight emblematic locations from the book.

The perspective of second-year Photography students from IED Torino provides the contemporary counterpoint. Through their lenses, they offer a fresh take on these places, capturing and interpreting their essence and transformations 50 years later in six auteur videos.

The videos on display were created by Melissa Billotti, Silvia Bussolino, Giulia Franceschini Beghini, Fabiana Scalise, Sofia Valabrega, and Luca Zanzone, with the support of professors Eleonora Diana, Guglielmo Diana, and Federico Lagna.
