Four multidisciplinary teams made up of students from the Master in Design for Sustainable Fashion Technologies from IED Barcelona and FabLab Barcelona IAAC participated in the European programme ATTRACT Future Technologies for Sustainable Fashion (ATTRACT FTSF) with the support of IdeaSquare/CERN. An initiative taking place over the course of two months to explore how digital manufacturing technologies and new materials can help mitigate the environmental impact of the fashion industry on the planet.

Combining the strengths of both institutions (embedded design ideation, digital manufacturing and open synthetic biology laboratories), students developed various prototypes using ATTRACT technologies. The proposals, focusing on sustainability, future scarcity and the habitability of space, ranged from garments designed to withstand aridity inspired by post-earth roamers, to work uniforms for farmers that cool the body, to maternity garments designed to help in cases of extreme heat, and a modular device to reduce environmental pollution.
