Designing a sustainable future with the help of Federico Antelo and the IED in Colombia
Next May, the IED team will travel to Colombia with Federico Antelo, textile designer and director of the IED Madrid Fashion School
During his visit, Federico Antelo will give a series of workshops and conferences with our allies in Colombia. From May 5th to 9th, he will visit some of the most renowned universities in that country that offer programs about the creative industries field.
“Craftsmanship applied to contemporary design” is the name of the conference with topics about the importance of sustainability and its impact and significant contribution to design practices and its application in all its areas and disciplines.
Designers have found in traditional craftsmanship and techniques rooted in their local environments an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and a way to make their collections more sustainable, without sacrificing the contemporary nature of their designs. Many times, thanks to the articulation between the language of manual work, with new materials and techniques (crafts, recycling, experimentation, new technologies and ready-made) they are part of the configuration of the new scenario that we look for the design of the future.

Graduated from the “Prilidiano Pueyrredón” National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2015, he created his art and textile design studio, while continuing his faculty career at the IED in Madrid, after having worked at the University of Buenos Aires. Focused on artisanal printing and the production of unique textile pieces, his current project is presented as an alternative and complementary field of action for his pictorial work, generating new aesthetic possibilities derived from the use of techniques typical of the textile language, with the intention of opening spaces for search, dialogue and fusion between art and design.
