If you are curious about what’s behind a digital product or experience, the Media Design degree programme at IED Milano is definitely your best option. You will start from scratch to gradually achieve full command of digital design as you learn how to develop a project through each step of the process and all the way to production. 

You will learn how to manage all the tools and languages of new multimedia technologies used across a variety of areas of visual communication and interactive media production. Your passion will be the driving force behind your motivation all along the way.

Over the three years, UI and UX code will become a core part of your work. Your training will be focused on a variety of subjects: on the one hand, you will explore disciplines that are more strictly design-related, and on the other hand, you will learn about the main software tools used in the industry, as well as different programming languages and platforms. 

You will develop a solid knowledge of the language and tools of new technology applied to different areas of visual communication and production of interactive content. And your focus will always be on possible future developments to stay ahead of trends and growth.

Issued Degree:

Diploma Accademico di Primo Livello (DAPL), corresponding to a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) – EQF6 Level (European Qualification Framework).

Credits:

The course awards 180 CFA (Academic Formative Credits), corresponding to 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System).

Learning how to create web, mobile, IoT products and interactive installations 
 

The teaching method in the Media Design programme at IED Milano is mainly based on a project-oriented and highly practical approach.

The projects developed with our partner companies will give you the opportunity to approach market demands and customers’ needs in general. You will put into practice your technical skills, learning how to design multimedia products for the web and for mobile or fixed devices, but also for interactive installations and electronic communication platforms. At the same time, you will be developing user interface in terms of design, graphic quality and user experience. 

The aim of the Media Design degree programme is to provide training for future professionals who will be able to set up their own innovative start-ups or to work for a company or an agency covering a variety of roles in web, apps, IoT storytelling or home automation. On top of that, the Media Designer can also offer a significant contribution to gaming, working closely with illustrators and CG Artists. 
 

The Media Design degree programme at IED Milano is designed for students like you who are passionate about technology and want to fully explore the potential of the digital world with all its applications. 
This is a programme for anyone who enjoys innovation and has a curiosity to understand the world behind interactive products such as websites, apps, installations, video games, IoT and many others. Our students can actually contribute to enhancing the value of products, of business and cultural services, using their advanced skills to explore and bring innovation into traditional and digital media.
Over your three years of study in Media Design, you will work across different areas, both with other IED students and with local institutions, museums, associations and companies. You will be involved in a number of projects to cover such fields as web, mobile, storytelling, machine learning, IoT, hardware and 3D printing.
 

The Media Design programme is mainly based on advanced learning, with a focus on the use of new technologies. Partnership with several companies will also give you the opportunity to explore different applications, getting inspired and putting into practice everything you learn on the projects.
Multidisciplinary is the key to this training programme, which develops over the three years with the aim of improving your critical thinking and problem solving skills. Therefore, even when faced with technological evolution or radical change, you will be able to adapt to new situations and choose wisely among many different options. 
The Media Design Undergraduate Programme at IED Milano works closely with the local manufacturing industry: indeed, starting with your second year, you will also be able to make direct contact with many different companies and professionals.

The interactive approach of this programme will allow you to gain full command
of the skills required by the market. You will be able to work in a variety of areas including: Interaction Design, Software Development, Hardware Development, UI Design, UX Design, Multimedia Art and more.

first year

On your first year, you will be introduced to key theory and cultural backgrounds of Media Design-related careers: this will include art history, psychology of form and colour, and semiotics. You will also be focusing on the practice of some more technical subjects such as coding, UI design and multimedia design.

On your second year, you will go into more detail on design with specific courses on UX Design, Mobile and Web Design and Interactive Systems. You will continue to study theory subjects that are useful to help you move into your future career, such as marketing, communication aesthetics and sociology.
