Shaping the new aesthetic of a fashion brand through visual storytelling and editorial projects.

Being a Fashion Art Director means overseeing the visual aesthetic and artistic direction of fashion-related projects, such as advertising campaigns, editorial photo shootings, fashion shows, and brand events.

Professionals in fashion art direction have the mission to conceptualize and implement the artistic vision of a brand, taking into consideration the target audience and the latest fashion trends.

Thanks to the Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction you will achieve the skills necessary to take charge of the fashion art director’s key responsibilities  from the concept development to the direction of a photo shooting.

Classes will are  held in english in an intercultural and diverse environment.

The city is a plus: Milan, a world renowned fashion capital and home to some of the most prestigious fashion brands. The right place to learn, experiment and experience the real-world expectations and needs of fashion industry.

The Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction seeks to train future professionals, capable of shaping the visual identity and perception of fashion brands in order help them emerge and being recognised on a highly competitive industry such as the fashion world.

The Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction at IED Milano aims to prepare students for the multidisciplinary role of Art Director for the fashion industry, focusing on process, creative collaboration and visual storytelling whilst also providing expert current market context and industry insight.

A Master with a process driven structure. From contemporary context and market awareness to the creative development, research and planning process through to final creative outputs and executions.

Exploring what it means to be a fashion art director today, from editorial design and direction, through to campaign and content creation for major international fashion brands, with an emphasis on the multidisciplinary, collaborative nature of being a Fashion Art Director.

The Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction is addressed to students with high level of creativity and a desire to investigate the fashion industry and the fashion latest trends to develop new concepts and aesthetics.

The Master’s Program is open to graduates in Fashion Design, (Fashion) Communication, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, as well as to young professionals with strong knowledge in design methodology and project development and/or experience in the fashion field.

·      Skill required: Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Presentation software (ex. Canva, Keynote, PowerPoint), Microsoft Office

·      Strongly recommended skills: Knowledge in fashion culture and history

Contemporary fashion brands and editorial platforms have a constant need for exciting, engaging imagery and dynamic design and direction. The Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction will fully prepare you for work in the fashion industry, from responding to briefs, collaborating with creative teams, to learning the tools to enable you to fully express and experiment with the assets you create.

You will build a thorough understanding of the role of fashion art director – from the origins of the discipline to how this has evolved to meet the needs of the modern market. Visual storytelling and content creation are a key part of a brands marketing strategy, and you will learn how a fashion art director is fundamental in expressing these pillars of communication.

Finally, the Master’s Program in Fashion Art Direction will fully equip you to lead the creative production process, from initial concepts, visual research and creative planning to being on set and understanding what it takes to direct a creative team.
