Three proposals from IED young designers on the new concept of lobby arrive to Paris, at the reference trade show for the international Hospitality sector.
Dare to draw on the audacity of youth! EquipHotel Paris invited 11 IED Milano graduate students in Interior Design to investigate the topic of "The Lobby of Tomorrow” within the hospitality field, throughout new post-pandemic scenarios driven by new economic and cultural paradigms. In the 3 thesis projects proposed by 3 groups of students, a particular attention was given to all the aspects related to sustainability, new technologies as well as innovation.
Now the 3 projects and their authors are about to fly to Paris to take part at EquipHotel 2024 fair (3-7th November), host in the Innovation Lab (Pavilion 7.3).
Their development (led by IED thesis supervisor Roberto Di Stefano, thesis to-supervisor Simona Marzoli and thesis assistant Asli Ozden) followed a transdisciplinary and deep research, driven by a multicultural approach, with a broader view discovering new hospitality concepts, considering all the new potential frontiers, focusing on the new travel needs.
"We envision hospitality as a cultural hub, spanning from ancient markets to today’s online platforms" is the manifesto of the authors Edoardo Arosio, Martina Critelli, Paola De Palma and Beatrice Rancati. The aim of the project is to give justice to exploited minorities, as in West Africa. They explore a sci-fi path of liberation, merging ancient traditions with technology to create the Cyber Africa narrative, safeguarding and enhancing its magical cultural heritage.
A visionary project that aims to engage the senses and emotions in the future lobby, developed by Yasemin Kapkin, Simona Kotselova and Beliz Yalçın. Utilizing cutting-edge technological innovations, the lobby aims to preserve and evoke memories, while facilitating the creation of new ones. This innovative space offers a diverse range of journeys for individuals.
This proposal for the lobby of tomorrow represents a bold departure from traditional lobby design, offering a holistic approach that prioritizes community, sustainability, and inclusivity. "As we invite you to envision a few possibility of urban living, we are confident that our future will hold a development towards cities that contain more rewilded natural retreats" - is the view of the authors Fannar Gudmundsson, Silvia Hoeller, Maria Schmucker and Olof Lara Vidarsdottir.
