Faced with a society that is growing increasingly tired of the standardisation of mass-produced products, and with the emergence of new technologies and new marketing channels that improve the competitiveness of small workshops, the importance of artisanal creation is once again being valued. However, although its quality and exclusivity are widely recognised in the world of design, part of the reality of this work is still unknown to the general public.

In order to bridge this gap and bring the richness of the production of luthiers, jewellers, ceramists, blacksmiths, weavers, and all kinds of artisan trades closer to the general public, for some years now, the Escuela de Organización Industrial y Oficio y Arte (Organización de los Artesanos de España) [School of Industrial Organisation and Trades and Art (Organisation of Spanish Artisans)], has promoted the European Artistic Crafts Days. A week during which artists who wish to showcase their creations and share their work processes with the public are invited to participate in a series of free activities held in 24 countries.

This year, the workshops were held from 27 March to 2 April, and IED Barcelona was part of the programme with the round table “New crafts. Digital Revolution II”. The talk was held in the school facilities and with the presence of the Designer Júlia Esqué; Ferran Collado, Glass Craftsman; and Julián Sañudo, Leather Craftsman. The talk was moderated by Sebastian Alberdi, Programme Leader of Product Design at IED.

At the same time, a small exhibition of projects carried out by students of the School in collaboration with different craftsmen and women and the Ateneu de Fabricació [Fab Lab] in Gràcia were presented.
