Academic year

2023/2024

Project of the second year of Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Stylist and Communication for the subjects Fashion Design 2 (styling man, styling woman, still life) and Computer Graphic (InDesign2, animation, editorial direction)

In the realm of visual perfection, where sharp lines and flawless symmetries reign supreme, Irene Maffeis' Fautographie emerges as a celebration of the imperfect. The "faute" - error - according to Man Ray was the means to free creativity from technical perfection: this is where his reflection comes from. Through the lens of moving photography, we immerse ourselves in the realm of beauty found in the unexpected, the involuntary and the defect.

Capturing movement in a shot allows us to discover the harmony of our actions, the light that accompanies us in defining what could be our soul. The blurred image can become a metaphor of faded memories and wandering thoughts, frozen in a past that is no longer allowed to investigate. It can be a magnifying glass on the perception of a disease.

The double exposure, on the other hand, is able to indicate the function of containing and content, immortalized in the two shots printed on the same film. In this way, physical barriers that we are used to put before us and things begin to fade away, leaving only a trace of a game of transparency.

The shadows, mistakes and photographic lapses in this project become new means of understanding to reconsider not only the nature of photography itself but also everything that is beautiful, involuntary, concrete surrounding us.
