IED Barcelona has once again demonstrated its commitment to social design, co-creation and inclusion, collaborating with the Setba Foundation [Fundació Setba] for the second year in a row, within the framework of the Magistrals/Setba Award project.
Following a visit to the Les Corts Job Centre in March to receive a silk-screen printing class, from 6 to 8 May, second-year Graphic Design students took part in a workshop developed in the IED Barcelona labs along with 12 artists with intellectual disabilities, the finalists of this initiative. Together, they conceptualised a possible application for their works as part of a commercial product; in this case, labels for bottles of wine.
In addition, the relationship between IED and the Setba Foundation has gone a step further this year, including a digital photography masterclass titled Digital portrait – retrato digital for the artist who is the final winner of the 2024 Setba Award, as well as their organisation. The three-hour workshop will take place in the IED Barcelona Point One facilities, with the participation of an assistant from the Media Lab.
The Setba Award ceremony will take place on 16 September at CaixaForum.
The Setba Award is a recognition that the Setba Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works to contribute to social transformation through culture, hand in hand with professional artists, includes within the Magistrals project — an online and in-person training initiative that aims to professionalise the art workshops of social organisations that work with people with intellectual disabilities, connecting them with the university art circuit, and viceversa.
