From 10 to 12 October, the works of the photography students are on exhibition at KEMONIA Lab. The shots raise questions about roots, belonging, nature and the delicate balance between reality and imagination.
Seventeen young Italian and international artists, undergraduates in Photography at IED Milano and therefore just a step away from their introduction into the professional world, confront themselves with the present, questioning themes deeply linked to their generation. The result is Recollections in Tranquillity, an exhibition that brings together the works of the final year of the course, strongly promoted by the students, with the curatorship entrusted to their 2nd year colleagues and developed as part of the Curatorship workshop with lecturer Magali Avezou.
The inauguration is on Thursday 10 October, from 7 to 10 pm, and the exhibition - which brings together original unpublished works, personal projects and thesis projects ranging from photographic prints to textiles, from video projections to installations, from books to sculptures - will also be open on 11 and 12 October from 10 am to 6 pm at KEMONIA Lab, (via Santa Teresa 5, Milan).
THEMES, WORKS, AUTHORS
During their three year course of study, the young photographers (in the main image, a shot by Lisa Lombardi) have honed a personal perspective, capable of reflecting issues that question and investigate the world around them, exploring themes such as their roots, sense of belonging, relationship with nature and the balance between reality and imagination. Their works invite us to pause and immerse ourselves in new perspectives, offering a space for thought between looking ahead to the future and remembering.
The exhibition spans a variety of formats and themes such as relationships, disorientation, migration and the ecosystem that surrounds us.
The curatorship is actually a result of the work of the second-year students, who had the opportunity to put into practice what they had learned during the Curatorship workshop as part of their studies, directly experiencing the construction, challenges and dynamics of a real event.
THE TALK
On Saturday 11.30 am, KEMONIA Lab will host Francesca Spiller, curator (formerly of Galleria Sozzani and Camera Torino) and founder of Reading Room, at the IED exhibition, in a special talk on independent publishing in Milan and elsewhere and the new languages of contemporary photography.
Therefore, the event scheduled is Recollections in Tranquillity from 10 to 12 October (free admission) in the KEMONIA Lab cultural space, “a place where curious minds and kindred spirits meet an underground current that feeds and transports collective aspirations, a crossroads of thoughts, sounds, words, images, visions, questions, exchanges, research and experimentation”.
