With the aim of practicing the outdoor sketching technique and creating a community across IED locations as part of a higher education network, 10 1st, 2nd and 4th year IED Barcelona Interior Design students travelled to Rome, Italy, from 11 to 13 March to carry out their IED Architectural Sketching Experience.
In addition to sketching in emblematic urban spaces like the Mercati di Traiano, the Pantheon, the Sant'Eustachio neighbourhood and Piazza del Popolo, over the course of the three days, the students also had the opportunity to learn about and draw the Maxxi Museu, the National Museum of 21st Century Art. Once inside, they visited the “AALTO – Aino Alvar Elissa. The Human Dimension of Design” exhibition, which showcases 11 projects carried out by this studio in an experimental format.
The trip also included a sketching session at the IED Rome facilities, where the students of both schools shared experiences and created a final mural together.
Carmen Blanquez, Academic Coordinator of IED Barcelona’s Design School, and Teacher Laia Cisteró accompanied the students during the trip. Barbara Brocchi, Expert in Architectural Sketching and Teacher at IED Rome, was in charge of directing the experience.
