IED – Istituto Europeo di Design, official partner of Ukrainian Fashion Week, is pleased to announce that Julia Weems, IED Barcelona Fashion School Director, is holding a virtual lecture at BE SUSTAINABLE! Fashion Summit on February 7th, 2021 at 3.00pm CET.

Fashion Futures: Innovation in Design Processes and Methodology
The fashion industry is the second biggest worldwide economic activity and full of outdated practices. What transformations are currently taking place both in creation and production methods? Where do we still need more changes regarding technology and sustainability? This talk will explore these ideas, while looking at fashion education, and how future professionals are being trained, as well as current industry practice.

BE SUSTAINABLE! Fashion Summit is the largest event dedicated to the development of sustainable fashion in Ukraine, and will take place online during Ukrainian Fashion Week No Season 2021.
Julia Weems, along with other high-level professionals in the field, has been invited to take part in the international summit panel of the event.
The speakers will focus on the current topics of digital fashion transformation and implementation of digital solutions, to create a responsible industry of the future.
Julia Weems began her career studying such disciplines as Art History, Costume, Fashion and Textile Design between New York and Barcelona. She has worked as a freelance stylist in New York, collaborating with such magazines as Glamour, Elemental, FHM, Paper Magazine, Podivm and Style.com as well as major international celebrities and numerous video-publicity productions. Julia has additionally worked as costume designer for experimental arts events, namely for the J Mandle Performance Company as well as in the production of fashion shows, events and parties. Upon moving to Barcelona, she has continued her career in such fields as theater costume design (for Teatre Lliure and Teatre Tantarantana), fashion show production (Jose Castro’s shows in Paris and Barcelona), fashion design – as such, she has collaborated with Debora Francis for her capsule line of high-end jackets for celebrities, Jose Castro’s creative team and her own labels. Currently she is the Fashion School Director at IED Barcelona Escola Superior de Disseny.
