How can multimedia technologies tell and enhance the experience of local communities, with their values and stories?

Multimedia and interactive technologies are currently changing the way we live, being a key part of our lives and opening up new spaces and perspectives for project design work.

The Master of Arts in Interactive Environments. New technologies for art, culture and the local community considers the design of interactive and multimedia spaces, services and tools as exchange platforms that can help the renewal of cultural, artistic and historical heritage of different places. This approach fits into the vision of DesignXCommons, where design is regarded to integrate together the commons and regenerate the planet.

Information to decide

Using an interdisciplinary approach, this course explores the potential of digital arts in narrating and enhancing the stories of local communities and the places they live in. Art techniques and visual forms of expression are explored through critical understanding of how they are used to develop, design, and deliver immersive experiences, digital installations, and interactive environments.  This programme provides in-depth knowledge of the project methods as well as digital and physical technologies involved in the design of visual, sound and interactive communication. Through a blend of ecology, activism, and new technologies, hybrid forms of storytelling and experience are explored as part of a physical or digital space, to be regarded as either tangible or intangible platforms for collaborative thinking and co-design. This kind of approach provides a framework for developing thoughtful, responsible and transformational projects where urban communities get involved as they make effective and conscious use of digital media. All of this is achieved by taking full consideration of social, cultural and ethical impacts on complex and as yet under-explored contexts.

Career roles that you can pursue with the degree programme in Interactive Environments. New technologies for art, culture and the local community will learn how to create and develop stand layouts and installations, as well as content and interactive experiences with new media arts, interaction design, visual & sound design. Continuing in Ph.D. trajectories at Italian and foreign universities will also be an option.
