This project aspires to become a replicable model in other places, implementing the gender perspective.

In rural villages in sub-Saharan Africa, despite being a key driver of family, economic and social life, women are victims of a patriarchal society that imposes a system of values that oppresses their rights and stems their individual and collective development. Factors such as family expectations in terms of teenage motherhood, limited access to land and credit, and climate change perpetuate women’s economic dependence on their spouses, undermining their future prospects.

This Interior Design Final Degree Project by the student Maitane González proposes the creation of a Women’s Community Centre in Busoro, a rural village in Uganda. Conceived as a space for meeting, advocacy and training, the centre seeks to strengthen women’s individual and collective confidence, recognising their vital role in the social fabric of their communities. Through a sense of community, in these centres, women will find the necessary support and resources to actively participate in decision-making and drive collective actions that foster a social transformation.

The project aspires to become a model replicable in other places, implementing the gender perspective as a determining factor for the sustainable development of rural areas.
