A collective work celebrating the bicentennial of the Egyptian Museum of Turin

The Egyptian Museum of Turin, among the most important cultural institutions in the world dedicated to ancient Egypt, celebrated its bicentennial in 2024.  This historic milestone provided a unique opportunity to reflect not only on the rich heritage it holds, but also on the museum's role in contemporary society.

In this context, the students of the Master in Innovation and Digital Production for Culture through an analysis that explores the history of the Egyptian Museum, dwelling on characters, events and curiosities that have contributed to build its unique identity in the global cultural landscape, designed a web page parallel to the Egyptian Museum's institutional website, active until the end of the celebratory event. A temporary platform that represents not only an informative digital space, but a dynamic and interactive experience that invites the public to discover the museum with new eyes.

The visual concept of the project is inspired by the Wunderkammer, the “wonder rooms” that symbolically represent the origin of museum collections. The Wunderkammer is a perfect historical element to tell the story of the genesis of the Egyptian Museum, allowing a bridge between the past and the present. This approach makes it possible to start from the collection's beginnings to explore, today, the museum's role and importance, allowing the user to immerse himself in a narrative that connects objects, stories and people.

The project, while conceived as a unique Bicentennial experience, represents a possible pilot episode of a format that aspires to become a structured digital curatorial programming. An experiment allows to test new ways of interaction between museum and public, which make the visitor the protagonist of different and contemporary stimuli.

The Innovation and Digital Production for Culture project aims to provide space for students to imagine a solution capable of redefining the relationship between the museum and its audience through innovative, engaging and accessible ideas. The goal is not simply to increase visitors, but to build a digital experience that makes the user a protagonist and stimulates an active dialogue, leveraging contemporary technologies and languages to create a lasting and transformative impact.
