The ‘CCR - Visitor Centre’ project proposes innovative ideas to improve the visitor experience at the Centre for Conservation and Restoration (CCR) in Venaria. Each idea is associated with impact indexes that assess involvement, depth of experience, ease of contact and originality.
These include filling empty spaces with dedicated tools, presented as works of art, to evoke restoration. A digital installation simulates the deterioration of a work, raising awareness of its fragility. A treasure hunt with QR codes guides visitors to discover the restoration tools. An audio guide narrates famous damage and restoration of works of art.
An installation reproduces a doctor's office, with an artwork as patient and the restorer as doctor. There is a space in the Visitor Centre for a break from the tour of the Reggia and to find out more about restoration. Exclusive experiences for small groups make it possible to follow the work of the restorers during the closing hours of the Reggia. Restoration secrets are told through podcasts or detective-style videos.
These are just some of the ideas that aim to make restoration actions visible, usually hidden from the public, and to create an interactive and memorable experience. The goal is to inform visitors about conservation and restoration processes, activating their curiosity and sense of care for cultural heritage.
The Digital Innovation and Production for Culture project examines the effectiveness of the Visitor Centre of the Venaria Conservation and Restoration Centre. It analyses objectives, audiences and uses, proposing solutions to improve accessibility, understanding and appreciation of the experience, taking into account the constraints of space and duration, and the implications for visitors.
