From 13 to 15 June, IED exhibited three proposals by alumni of the Barcelona and Milan Schools in the Project Area of Sónar+D that blur the boundaries of design by exploring the new possibilities provided by creative technology and experimental art.

IED Barcelona exhibited “Unwoven memories”, an installation in the format of a black box by Graphic Design, pathway in Motion Graphics and Video graduate Thinh Truong. The project connects the memories of 260 objects belonging to residents of Colonia Güell and transforms them, based on patterns created following binary code, into various creative elements such as a tapestry, an audiovisual projection, a book of memories and a new typography.

On behalf of IED Milan, Kamilla Lucarelli presented “Gliinvisibili”, a project reflecting on language materialised in the form of a video-telegraph, creating a device for linguistic coding and decoding that explores the communicative possibilities of empty spaces, silence and pauses.

The second proposal from Italy was “Plastic” by Sofia Masello. This is a music video composed of more than 1,000 AI-generated images that, arranged in a sequence, evoke the origins of cinema. Created in collaboration with the Catalan Singer Triquell — the songwriter — the work portrays, in a caricatured way, the consumer society and the alienated realities of plastic.
