IED Firenze is hosting an exhibition dedicated to George Zogo (1935-2016)

For the 10th edition of Black History Month Florence, the international festival celebrating the contributions of Afro-descendants to society and culture, IED Firenze is hosting an exhibition dedicated to George Zogo (1935-2016), a Cameroonian artist who spent half a century in the Tuscan city, leaving a profound mark on its artistic and cultural landscape.

Through a selection of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and archival materials, La Foule et l’Appel explores the relationship between art, identity, and belonging, highlighting the connection between Zogo’s visual language and the communities he shaped. A journey through diaspora, memory and transformation, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover an artist who intertwined worlds and cultures with an innovative spirit.

The exhibition will open on Tuesday, February 11, at 6:00 PM at IED Firenze - the former Teatro dell’Oriuolo, featuring a DJ set by Andrew Ndukuba, founder and director of Sahara Desert. This legendary cultural hub in Florence once pulsed with the rhythms of African and diasporic music, and Ndukuba also developed a radio program dedicated to African music for Antenna Tre.

A project curated by BHMF, coordinated by Karen A., in collaboration with the Master Program in Curatorial Practice.
