Five IED students create the mixed-media animated video accompanying the track "She's Seventeen" by the most famous Italian band in China. Available on all platforms starting January 10
A track with distinctly Beatles inspired sounds, evoking a magical and highly evocative aesthetic imagery. This is “She’s Seventeen”, a track from Octopuss’s latest album “A NUT FOR A JAR OF TUNA”, recorded at the legendary SHANGRI-LA Studios in Malibu and produced and mixed by multi-platinum producer Gary Miller.
Released on January 10, 2025, the single is accompanied by an animated music video created entirely at IED Milan by students Claudia Fiorelli, Giulia Raselli, Maria Caterina Brucci, Elia Parodi, and Pietro Viassolo. The video was their thesis project for the Bachelor's Degree in Illustration and Animation and CG Animation.
The music video is a mixed animation combining 2D and 3D techniques, enhanced by meticulous color studies and an intense focus on photography, light, and the illumination of interior and exterior environments. The creators, students of CG Animation and Illustration and Animation at IED Milan, skillfully combined powerful imagery with visual intensity and tenderness.
The story follows the growing relationship between two peculiar circus characters: the world’s tallest man, a gentle giant with Asian features, shy and fragile, and the solitary “bearded lady”. Freaks among freaks, outcasts among outcasts, the two characters bond over their care for a flower. The flower becomes a powerful metaphor for the beauty of life, which they are finally able to experience together. Their connection, built on kindness and acceptance, brings a fleeting moment of happiness and hope long sought after. However, they are separated by events, only to find each other years later in unexpected circumstances...
The video face themes of friendship and exclusion, dominance and gentleness, love and anger, pain and joy, fulfillment and regret, all culminating in a deliberately open and undefined ending.
THE BAND
Octopuss, an Italian trio composed of Reepo (guitar and vocals), Marco “Garrincha” Castellani (bass, founding member of Le Vibrazioni), and Nick Turri (drums, replacing original drummer Luca Capasso), have conquered over a thousand stages across Europe, North America, and Asia. Some of these stages were shared with international bands such as Deep Purple and Scorpions.
Following successful tours in the U.S. and a remarkable ten highly acclaimed tours in China (where they performed in prestigious live houses, headlined major local festivals in front of hundreds of thousands, and appeared on leading television networks reaching over 70 million viewers in China alone), Octopuss has firmly established themselves as one of the most significant Western bands in the Land of the Dragon.
