A comprehensive journey through all design phases, from conceptualization to graphic production and dissemination.

With the Design and Editing of Art Books Bootcamp you will discover the most important creative tools and techniques for designing and publishing cohesive and attractive works within a very specific area of editorial design.

For five days you will fully immerse yourself in this fascinating field, which combines aspects of editorial design with a deep and rigorous look at the discipline in its conceptual, typographic and plastic dimensions.

Starting from the analysis of the art book, its typologies and roles involved in its publication, you will discover the processes and tools for conceptualization, as well as specific knowledge about text and image. You will also learn everything related to the management of graphic production.

Information to decide

An immersion in the universe of the art book: typologies, roles, tools, textual and visual aspects.

This training is committed to project based learning, which allows an approach to the reality of the market and the immediate application of what has been learned in a real context.

It combines theoretical and practical parts taught by active professionals in this field, who will help you acquire skills and develop your final project.

A course designed for graphic designers, photographers, artists, curators, critics, cultural managers, editors and other profiles familiar with editorial production.

Especially, for those people interested in editorial design in its multiple fields of action: self-publishing, working with publishers, and artistic and cultural institutions.

The minimum access requirements are:

  • Intermediate level in the use of Adobe InDesign

  • Basic level of Adobe Photoshop

  • Knowledge of typography

You will combine creativity and aesthetic sensibility with technical knowledge that you will be able to direct towards the creation of art books, artist books, object books or photo books that surprise readers for their quality, originality and coherence.

In addition, the course will take place within the framework of BALA, an art book fair whose last two editions have been held at IED Kunsthal, which ensures an immersive experience within this field.
