Join our Communication Design Undergraduate Programme and learn how to use inspiration to drive your strategy and work on cutting-edge communication projects

Being a Communication Designer means that your aim is to develop solutions that have yet to be imagined. To do this, your mind should be open to continuous learning as your focus lies not just on making things, but also and most importantly on critical thinking and project designing. Communication designers are expected to be able to think strategically and manage all the different parts of a communication process.

During your second year of the Undergraduate Programme in Communication Design at IED Roma, you will be able to choose to specialize in one of four areas: Communication Management, where you learn how to interpret new consumer trends for developing a successful brand strategy, with a special focus on such tasks as new product / service development and media plan management; Event and PR, which covers the planning, creation and organisation of all the activities involved in meetings and events management; Copywriting and Content Design, focusing on content as a key element for effective communication with both companies and people; Art Direction, where you study how to design, develop and apply creative strategies through visual project design, working with graphic designers and other professionals from the communication and advertising industry.

After the course, a First Level Academic Diploma is issued. It is recognised by MUR - Italian Ministry of University and Research - and has the same legal value of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Information to decide

The purpose of our Communication Design Undergraduate Programme is indeed to help you develop ideas that speak right to the heart of your target group, building a genuine, meaningful and personal connection. Learn how to listen to the changing world outside, and start hunting for solutions to keep ahead of trends.

The learning method you will be taking on the Communication Design Undergraduate Programme at IED Roma is based on getting your hands down-and-dirty with a lab-based approach, from the very first moments you join the school. You will learn by doing, side by side with your classmates, as lecturers and experts in contemporary codes and styles from the world of communication will be there to guide and inspire you, providing regular feedback for your improvement with each project.

The aim of this programme is to provide you with training and critical thinking skills. You will be able to create successful marketing and communication strategies with a strong impact on consumers and perfectly matching market and customer needs.

Over the three years of the Undergraduate Programme in Communication Design, you will gradually achieve that level of independence needed to fully develop all of your creative and project design skills. Over the second year you will choose to specialise in one of these four areas, i.e. Communication Management, Event and PR, Copywriting and Content Design and Art Direction, and the programme will expand to include subjects and activities specific to the specialist area of your choice.

At the end of the third year, you will carry out a dissertation project, where you will go through all the different steps of developing an idea, from concept to implementation, and this will be the peak of your learning experience.

If you feel you have the energy inside you, if you love to observe communication and everything around you with curiosity, if you have the desire to express yourself and channel your energy into new projects telling your point of view on things, the Communication Design programme is definitely the right path to follow.

You will build a cultural background and further develop a methodology that will help you bring new ideas to life. Your ability to manage, supervise and guide your co-workers and the work process in general will help you catch a glimpse of the ‘big picture’ of each project.

Over the three years of your Undergraduate Programme in Communication Design, you will work with companies, start-ups, public institutions and professionals, all of them helping you get your projects and ideas off the ground.

If you join our Communication Design programme in Rome, you will soon realize that your choice is definitely the best in terms of course structure and teaching quality. The lab-based approach will help you feel more confident while working on your own projects. It will also provide you with a full understanding of how ideas are developed and shared. This programme will give you the opportunity to learn not just how to do things, but also how to recognise, analyse and most importantly develop fresh and valuable ideas.

Your personal growth will be enriched by continuous interaction with the manufacturing industry through projects developed in cooperation with agencies, companies and public institutions. Work from external partners, contests and workshops will bring out our typical lab-based approach to professional development in its fullest expression.

Close contact with experienced communication designers will allow you to get valuable feedback on your projects as you progress and make improvements to your work.

For those approaching this world for the first time, it will be an exciting experience to understand how crucial communication is to the strategic development of companies, brands and all kinds of projects. The all-round approach of this field is what actually drives the need for technical skills, creativity, know-how, strategy and vision in multinational companies, start-ups and public administrations. And all of that is perfectly reflected in the profile of Copywriter, Editor, Content Specialist, PR/Digital PR, Community Manager, Event Coordinator, Creative Specialist, Art Director, Project Manager, Account Manager.
